Yemi Alade Live in D.C. Concert Wearing a Nikki Billie Jean Jumpsuit (8/10/18)

So last Friday, I had the opportunity to meet the “Yoruba-Igbo girl”, “Mama Africa”, “Queen of Afrobeat”, the one and only, Yemi Alade.

Yemi and I have been following each other on Instagram for about 4 years. So it was nice to finally meet her in person.

On August 10th, Yemi performed at The Viking Center in Burtonsville, Md.

Event info here.

This was the first time I have ever seen Yemi Alade perform live. All I can say is that Yemi is an excellent performer.

She is hands down, one of the best Afrobeat performers.

Her high level energy performance is the total package. Excellent singing, a live band, backup dancers, crowd interaction, and a stylish outfit (courtesy of your truly). *wink *wink

If you haven’t seen Yemi Alade perform live in person, make sure to go to her next concert in your city. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

This concert was smaller and more intimate than most of Yemi’s shows. The event was produced by Cameroonians, showing that Yemi has a large fan base.

Let’s get into the outfit.

So when I was given the opportunity to style Yemi for this concert. My mind jumped to this pink and yellow jumpsuit I wore for an event back in college.

From following Yemi on Instagram, I noticed she likes to perform in shorts or jumpsuits.

I wasn’t sure it was going to fit, but it did! And the jumpsuit fit her perfectly. Okurrrr.

The photos from the concert came out so well.

Shoutout to my girl Shanell Brown of Reign Noire for taking these pictures!

As you can see, he concert attendees enjoyed Yemi’s performance. They sprayed Yemi, not only $1 bills but $100 bills.

At the end of the concert, back the hotel. We got a chance to chat and take pictures. I gave Yemi a gift from the All Things Ankara brand. She loved her gift.

That’s me. Yemi and I.

Your favorite ankaranista, natural hair wearing, youruba-igbo gyals!

“You too like to demo…

You to sabi demo, oya pose. Ayakata!

All in all, I had a fun time at the concert. It was a pleasure meeting and working with Yemi Alade and her team. They are super nice and humble. I can’t wait to work with Yemi again in the future!
